Dr. Johnson is a faculty member at Columbia University's College of Physician & Surgeons, Program in Physical Therapy and holds the title of Assistant Professor of Clinical Physical Therapy. He teaches Orthopedics and Therapeutic Exercise related to the spine and extremities to physical therapy doctoral and medical students. Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association's Hooked on Evidence Low Back Pain Panel and the Bottom Line Committee of the Physical Therapy Journal. He also served as a reviewer for the American College of Physicians and American Pain Society's soon to be published guidelines on Low Back Pain. Dr. Johnson received his Master's of Science Degree in Physical Therapy with honors from Columbia University's Program in Physical Therapy in 1994, and he received a Doctoral Degree in Physical Therapy with a clinical specialization in manual therapy from the University of St. Augustine in 2005. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist and is a Certified Manual Therapist. Dr. Johnson is recognized by The Marquis Who's Who in American Healthcare and the Best of US.com as a leader in the field of physical therapy and has received numerous Awards, including: Columbia University's Physical Therapy Alumni Award, the Mary Callahan Award for Academic and Clinical Excellence in Physical Therapy, the Paul Brachfeld Grant for Study in Psychology and Hunter College's J & W Freedman Award. He previously worked as the Orthopedic Advanced Clinician for the New York Presbyterian Spine Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital's Rehabilitation Medicine's Physical Therapy Department, as well as managing numerous outpatient physical therapy clinics. Dr. Johnson maintains membership in the American Physical therapy Association's Orthopedic Section and Performing Arts Special Interest Group, the International Association of Dance Medicine, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.
